Foxes

A fox family is apparently living under our deck.

For now, we are allowing them to remain until the kits (or pups) are ready to move along. Then we will probably replace a couple broken slats that serve as a barrier to the under-deck. Will that keep them away next year? We'll have to wait to find out.

Here's a couple photos. I may add more later. The photos came out quite good, considering they were taken by my not-so-steady hands and through a cob-webbed window.

Their markings are beautiful....

Here are two different links to learn about urban foxes.

I tweeted some of my fox pics, and they got a lot of "likes"...for my tweets.

Oh wow. Cool. Of course it's cool when they're under your deck and not mine. My in-laws had a cotton tail bunny have 8 babies in the middle of their front lawn. All the bunnies enjoyed nibbling away at her new garden Biker Dude and I planted. Thankfully, most of the garden survived. As for the bunnies, either they've moved on or nature had other ideas. A cat was noted to be wandering around. :(

Lol Zoe on the "cool when it's" not under your deck. :D They moved out around Thursday, June 8th. They were quite active that morning. And then in the afternoon, I saw one of the adults carrying a dead squirrel away from the direction of our deck and up toward the woods above our back yard. We haven't seen any deck activity since then.
My husband had seen one of the adults with a dead squirrel a few days before that, but s/he was carrying the squirrel to under the deck.

So they've moved, which I'm glad about. But we enjoyed them while they were around. I think that maybe they moved in while we were Florida. I read that the female will make multiple dens.

I bet the bunny family was fun to watch. I hope they moved on as opposed to the cat getting them.

BTW, blogger's comment function has gone a bit weird. One of the weirdies is that I'm not getting comment email notifications anymore. I'm not the only one with the problem. Folks are complaining about it not being fixed yet. I think, "I'm just glad it's a free service" - these blogs.

There's another blogger blog that I've tried to leave comments on and my comments won't go through as a rule so I stopped trying. Yours always lets me through. I tried this other blog recently and it let me through. Who knows.

Just showed Biker Dude the fox pictures. He was surprised by their coats. Different than here. I said maybe they have different coloured coats per season?

The bunnies seems to all be gone and the garden is recovering. My MIL wondered to one of her neighbours if the cat had got them and her neighbour said, 'No, because they are at my place eating my garden.' Oops. ;)

Yeah, there's something up with the comments. I didn't change my settings, but I can no longer reply directly to an individual comment. I used to be able to do that.

From the bit of research I did, these are gray foxes. I don't think their coats change color. When I first perused a google search on foxes in North Carolina, I thought they were red foxes because reds can be colors other than red, and they always have black stockings (or feet, can't recall now), and black tips on their tails.

A few days later I did some more in-depth reading and looking at photos online. These definitely match the gray-fox images. I learned that grays can climb trees to escape prey, though we didn't witness any tree climbs. And that grays are native to our area; reds are not. Reds were brought over by Europeans for hunt. I thought reds were native and grays weren't. Interesting.

Cool and funny about the bunnies. :D

You'll like this: our neighbor witnessed a turtle (box turtle I think) laying eggs in his yard! He contacted some folks who know about turtles and has built a wire fence to protect the eggs. He even got pictures of the turtle laying the eggs!

Btw, I haven't been reading or commenting much on blogs. I just haven't felt like it. Seems to go in spurts. But I think about folks, thinking of them with good thoughts in mind.

Much love to you and yours Zoe...
